What I am getting is that the only way to get MD components working in my app is to get a Pro version? Is that correct?

If you wanna use pro components in your project you should buy a pro version.
Or if you need only free components, please follow this page.
Ah, I see, I downloaded a wrong zip. I am checking the version on the one you pointed me to and I dont see Material being installed:

Yes, I got this one. But it doesn't have a router. Do I have to add it?

It does have a router, otherwise you would not be able to switch between different views from the sidenav on the left. You can always customize it to your needs.
