In your modal's HTML -- button type="button" mdbBtn color="primary" class="waves-light btn-sm btn-default" aria-label="Close" (click)="closeModal()" mdbWavesEffect>Close

In your TS that opened the modal --

constructor(public modalRef: MDBModalRef) {}

closeModal() { this.modalRef.hide(); }
