How to create an image carousel such that its width equal to the screen width and have a fixed height. I tried changing the dimensions in the carousel div but what is happening is that the div size changes but the image is not becoming responsive. Thank you

You have to change a height of .carousel-inner. Width has by default "auto" value so it adjust to the width of parent element. Take a look at css file of full page carousel template: http://mdbootstrap.com/product/full-background-carousel-template/
