I experienced this same thing. It didn't work just from opening the code snippet from the documentation page. Tried putting it into my project and thought maybe the online editor was the issue but didn't work within my project either

I really can't help without working an example of the issue. Now everything in a code editor works for me, so I can't recognize the problem. For now, I can recommend making sure that you link datatables correctly in your project as we described it here: https://mdbootstrap.com/docs/jquery/tables/datatables/#docsTabsAPI
