Topic: Looking for help: what is the best way to start using MDB React PRO

okia pro asked 5 years ago

Hello!

May I ask you to help me with the following question?

I purchased MDB React PRO, then downloaded and unzipped the product. Now ... what would the best and/or recommended way to start using it?

Let us say, for example, I start my project using “create-react-app”  and then continue with [manually] copying necessary mdbootstrap component one-by-one from the downloaded folder into my project’s folder … is it acceptable workflow? Is there better one?
Basically, what would be the best way to start using this downloaded PRO product?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
okia

P.S.

On relevant note: your documentation seems to be oriented toward Free version and somewhat ignore a Pro one … it would be nice to have some more PRO-specific documentation.

P.P.S.
Btw, "Version number" in this form seems to be broken:  whenever I am trying to provide "4.5.1", the form refuses with "Please enter a number" diagnostics...  known issue?

Thanks for Your remarks okia. We're using different environment (including Windows) and we're trying to test our package in all the environment available. But in fact, each pc is different and each terminal is working differently, so sometimes it is causing problems with installation of our package. Have You installed our package finally? Best Regards

Hello! Yes, I finally installed mdbreact pro. Many thanks!

Hello! Quite accidentally found solution to my problem. I'd recommend to add the following addition (or something to this effect) to the Step 3.7 of your "5-minutes-quick-start tutorial (PRO Version)": ``` IMPORTANT: Note, PRO version of mdbreact is not "normal" NPM package, but a GIT repo and therefore is highly sensitive to the details of your GIT environment. In particular, if you are working on Windows and if you are using "run Git from the Windows command prompt" installation method, you might experience various problems (like hanging on attempt to pull mdbreact component). So, if you are using Windows OS, we highly recommend that you are run 'npm install' or 'yarn install' from the 'Git-Bash' environment . ``` okia: The fact that this problem was overlooked by developers is highly understandable - most likely they are using macbooks like most web developers today. But the how your QA have not noticed it is, quite frankly, well beyond my comprehension...

Hello! >Can You check Your node and yarn versions Below: > npm --version 6.1.0 > node --version v8.9.3 > yarn --version 1.7.0 Both npm and yarn show the same behavior, i.e. downloading packages hangs dead Sincerely,

Mikołaj Smoleński staff commented 5 years ago

Please remove node and install LTS 8.11 Version : https://nodejs.org/en/ Then please try to install MDB again Best Regards

Hi okia, Our team just checked Your gitlab access. We are sure everything is fine with it and Your issue is most probably connected with Your environment problem. Can You check Your node and yarn versions? Regards

@Mikołaj Smoleński Sorry for any inconvenience, but ... did you have any chance to look into the info I've sent onto your private e-mail? Any advice for me? Sincerely

Hello!   >Did You try already to install our zip package? Yes. >It is working without the need for installing dependencies manually. Not sure I understand what you mean, but yes - I can install and run downloadable. However, I am not sure what would be the best way to use such distribution and that was my original question. So, we made a perfect circle now <g> >It’s the first time we have such issue Probably, although the problem described [here](https://mdbootstrap.com/support/recommended-way-to-include-mdbreact-pro-in-a-project-and-get-updates/) looks very similar...

Can You send me Your zipped project (without node_modules directory)? I'll try to install it and fix the issue. It is my mail address: m.smolenski@mdbootstrap.com. Best Regards

Hello again, It's the first time we have such issue, but I do my best to help You. Did You try already to install our zip package? It is working without the need for installing dependencies manually. I'm interested if it is working correctly with Your environment. Best Regards

Hello! Thank you for your promptly answer! > try to remove absolutely Your mdbreact from dependencies, then type ‘yarn’, after it add ‘mdbreact’ again and type yarn Tried that as well as any other possible combination [of steps] I could think off. All those shamanic dances did not seem to help - the situation is the same, i.e. installation process still hangs while retreiving and/or installing 'mdbreact' dependency :( Any ideas? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Did You try to remove absolutely Your mdbreact from dependencies, then type 'yarn', after it add 'mdbreact' again and type yarn? It should fully remove our package and then install it again with the latest version. Best Regards

Thank you!
Following the steps from PRO/npm tutorial - unfortunately, it does not work for me ...

Here is the situation:

I've updated package.json's "dependencies" section  with the following snippet:

"mdbreact": "git+https://oauth2:MyTokenHere@git.mdbootstrap.com/mdb/react/re-pro.git",
and run yarn install

The process hanged dead at the attempt to retrieve mdbreact (see the details below). No any further diagnostics, just hangs infinitely :(

I think I am facing the same error as here: https://mdbootstrap.com/support/recommended-way-to-include-mdbreact-pro-in-a-project-and-get-updates/ so it is probably a known issue...

Any advice?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hello there! Recommended way to use MDB React with your CRA-based app is installing it via NPM. Here you can learn how to add MDB React Pro to your project: https://mdbootstrap.com/react/5-min-quick-start/

okia pro commented 5 years ago

Hello! Thank you for promptly answer! However, your advice (i.e. to follow steps from https://mdbootstrap.com/react/5-min-quick-start/) does not seem to be correct. Following these steps results in the following fragment from package.json ``` ... "dependencies": { "mdbreact": "^4.6.0", ... ``` Which is FREE version, correct? But I need an entry for the PRO version. I expect I need an entry like that '“mdbreact”: “git+https://oauth2:xxxxxxxxxxxxx@git.mdbootstrap.com/mdb/react/re-pro.git”', like mentioned [here](https://mdbootstrap.com/support/mdb-react-new-version/) Basically, what steps shall I follow in order to get and install MDB React PRO npm version? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Bartłomiej Malanowski staff commented 5 years ago

Yes, you need to add "mdbreact" from our git repository. Please navigate to our MDB React 5 min quick start, then scroll down to "Install via Yarn/NPM" and select Pro version. Here we've described how to use the pro version via npm
