Topic: Controlling select with keyboard

brightsystems priority asked 3 years ago

I love the looks of the MDB select control, but I think it has a few issues that could possibly make it a little harder for users to get through a form, especially for those who tab their way through the controls.

Expected behavior 1 On [Alt] + [Arrow down] I would expect it to open as native select controls and also Bootstrap's version do.

Actual behavior 1 It opens and closes immediately after - a bit annoying.

Expected behavior 2 When typing a character I would expect it to jump to the first option starting with that letter. This is very useful when there are a lot of options, fx in a list of countries.

Actual behavior 2 It does nothing.

I know I can use the search options for the list of countries, but without using the mouse, the user will never see the search field.

Are there any ways to make some of this work?

I have not made a snippet, as the behavior can be seen on the docs page for the select control: https://mdbootstrap.com/docs/standard/forms/select

Best wishes
