Topic: Trouble Searching Large Async Datatable [20,000 Rows]

bpeterson priority asked 2 years ago

Expected behavior ...that search would behave the same as it would with static data

Actual behavior Typing in search input field has an extreme delay and is not usable. I will be dealing with about 20,000 rows I attempted to use demo data in the snippet [it may not be allowed]

Resources (screenshots, code snippets etc.) I attempted to use demo json in the snippet [it may not be allowed]

This is because you are trying to filter a very large amount of data on the client side. 19163 records with 8 items each are ~ 150k records to filter.

How quickly this data will be processed depends on the computer on which it is run. If it is an older computer, it may take up to a few minutes.

In this case, consider server-side filtering. Of course, we will look at this and see if we are able to improve something on our side, but it may turn out that trying to filter such a large amount of data is simply too much for browsers.

Thanks, Grzegorz. I will use "advanced search instead. [it's a little faster]. Is there a way I can toggle "loading..." while it's searching? or maybe float a spinner above the table [with a lower z-index] or something similar?

I've prepared an example snippet here: https://mdbootstrap.com/snippets/standard/bpeterson/4531093
